Carpet Hopper

Industry: Carpet

Application: Processing Machinery for Textile Fibers

Problem: Increased quantity of frequent machine starts, stops and load reversal led to a combination of failures including, wallowed keyways, fatigue and fretting corrosion. As time passed, keyway backlash caused positioning inaccuracies, effectively reducing the machinery's feed rate of the carpet fibers into the hopper. Replacement of the shaft, arm, key and keyway was inevitable.

Solution: Despite expensive and time-consuming machining and fitting, it was impossible to completely eliminate backlash between the key and the keyway. The installation of B-LOC Keyless Bushings offered a true zero backlash connection and permitted simple yet precise timing of paired arms to open and close. Equipped with B-LOC B400s, the machinery performed at its optimum, properly feeding, weighing and equally distributing the textile fibers into the hopper.
