Problem: Transfer wheels were originally mounted by pinning the wheel to the shaft. With the numerous starts/stops of the assembly line, the hole in the wheel would soon wallow and the wheel would wobble. Backlash also increased. The pin would also wear and eventually shear. Shafts were often damaged and need replaced.
