Application: Profile Cutting Machine

Problem:
The equipment uses a plasma jet to cut precision profiles from sheet or plate metal. The cutting head is moved around by a steel belt which is driven by a pulley. Traditional bushings with keyways were not able to provide the repeated cutting accuracy due to high levels of reversing torque giving rise to backlash and fretting around the keyway.

Solution:
Trantorque GT was used to mount the pulley. The lack of a keyway ensured zero backlash and, as a result, sustained cutting accuracy. In addition, eliminating fretting around the keyway area ensured minimal product failure and subsequent maintenance downtime.
