Innovative Solution Provides Work Based Learning for High School Students

MANHEIM, PA, January 22, 2016 – Fenner Drives has partnered with the York District Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to be the first company within York’s district office to offer Manheim Central School District Students work based learning opportunities.

Fenner Drives had a need to increase production levels in several departments and sought an innovative solution by seeking members of the community with disabilities that would benefit from the work environment, while enriching the lives of Fenner Drives associates through the inclusion and empowerment of those with disabilities in the workplace.

Fenner Drives initially reached out to the Arc of Lancaster County who in turn connected them to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.  With the additional help of PeopleShare staffing agency, the region’s largest and fastest growing staffing company, students were interviewed for the available positions.   The interview process provided the students valuable insight on how to develop interview skills that could be utilized for future employment opportunities.   Six students were selected for the program and will work closely with Fenner Drives staff in several areas of the manufacturing facility assembling unique belting products, preparing and packaging products and also learning how 3D products are made and used.  The five month program will provide valuable work experience as they prepare for graduation and a few of the students will also have the opportunity to continue working with Fenner Drives throughout the summer.
