Fenner Precision Polymers Employee Spotlight - Dan Verrill
Even though there have been changes at Fenner Precision Polymers over the years, a fair portion of the employees have remained the same. Dan Verrill is one those faithful and loyal employees. Dan enjoys what he does and when you talk to him you pick up on that right away. He asserts, “I like to say I have fun every day doing what I do with terrific people to work with and support me. After 31 years, this is still true.”
Sales is all Dan has known at Fenner Precision Polymers. He is constantly developing new markets and customers for belting products, primarily, as well as expanding our business with existing accounts and customers. He is an educator when you get down to it. He works with OEM and MRO accounts, teaching them how our products will improve the efficiency of their operation and reduce manufacturing costs. He serves as our Motion Corporate Account Manager as well, managing that relationship and growing our business with Motion Industries. He explains, “I spend much of my time working with our sales reps across the country making joint calls and using the opportunity to add to their product and application knowledge.”
For 24 years Dan was a District Sales Manager for Fenner Drives. He managed the New England and Eastern Canada markets. It was during this time that Dan enjoyed one of his biggest successes with the company. He expounds, “Air Xchange in Rockland, MA. manufactures energy recovery systems for the HVAC industry. Energy recovery systems capture the cool or warm energy from the air before it is exhausted out of a building and uses it to pre-cool or heat the incoming air. Air Xchange always used extruded urethane belting to rotate the large "wheels" used to capture the energy. They purchased their belting from a competitor, and we were never able to switch them to Eagle products.
After a long period of discussion and testing I was able to convince them that with PowerTwist Plus we could give them 5 years of life to their belt drives and eliminate any service or maintenance issues. POWERTWIST is performing better than they had hoped and they now drive all their energy wheels with POWERTWIST Standard. They have become one of our largest OEM Power Twist users.”
Dan’s role at the company has changed throughout the years. He was a Regional Sales Manager for the East Coast where he helped develop the Athena Program at Fenner Drives. This value-based sales tool has played an integral role in Dan’s success. Three years ago, Dan stepped into his current role as OEM/Belting Specialist. He is also the Corporate Account Manager for Motion Industries. He proudly cites, “In the two years I have had this position sales have grown ahead of budget every year. We have also been included in and invited to their annual executive summit meeting. Motion Industries has more than 3700 suppliers. Only 50 of their top sales and market influencing vendors are invited. This is a great honor and a testament to the work the whole Fenner Drives team does from NPD and production to sales and marketing.”
Outside of work Dan loves the outdoors, whether it is playing golf with his son or spending warm- weather weekends boating with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. The theme here is spending time with his family which Dan says is his greatest pleasure. Dan’s travel schedule has introduced him to reading whenever possible. He describes, “My wife and I are both avid readers. My Barnes and Noble Nook electronic reader travels with me and keeps me occupied during all of the hours I spend on planes.”
Through it all Dan still finds time to help struggling families in his area as they transition between jobs and housing needs as they try to get back on their feet. Dan explains, “Families rotate between 10 churches spending one week at each church. Once a quarter we provide meals and a place to stay while they find employment and a home of their own.” There’s no doubt we are fortunate have Dan Verrill as part of our Fenner Precision Polymers family.
